Share of day traders with positive net profit, by how many days they persisted. Every individual who started day trading Brazilian mini index futures between 2013 and 2015, tracked in regulator data: 19,646 new traders, of whom 1,551 persisted beyond 300 days. The curve slopes the wrong way for a learning story.

Of 1,551 Brazilians who day traded index futures for more than 300 days, 97% lost money and seventeen earned more than the minimum wage. In Taiwan, about 20% of day traders are profitable in a given year and under 1% predictably so.
