Most European financial dispute rulings bind nobody, and the Italian scheme shows what that costs
| Scheme | Binding on | Monetary ceiling | Published compliance |
|---|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom, FOS | Both, but only if the consumer accepts the decision | 445,000 pounds from 1 April 2025, 455,000 pounds from 1 April 2026 | Firm must comply promptly, rule DISP 3.7.12 |
| Ireland, FSPO | The provider | 500,000 euro | Not published in the documents read |
| Italy, ABF | Neither party | 200,000 euro | 94 per cent, non-compliance published for five years |
| Netherlands, Kifid | Mostly both | Appeal threshold 25,000 euro | Not published in the documents read |
Read in each scheme's own rules and reports. The United Kingdom limits are those for acts after April 2019; for earlier acts the figures are 200,000 pounds and 205,000 pounds.
Across notified dispute bodies in the union, 64 per cent deliver outcomes that bind neither side and only 20 per cent bind both. Italy's scheme binds neither party, publishes non-compliance for five years, and still reports 94 per cent compliance.
