Share of German retail turbo certificate investors with a net loss, by number of transactions over the five years to December 2023, from 543,329 investors. BaFin reports no significance statistic. This is an association in observational data, not an experiment: nothing here identifies whether trading more causes the loss or losing causes more trading.

German regulatory data shows the loss rate climbing from about 70 per cent for investors with under ten transactions to 91 per cent for those with over a thousand. Dutch data shows the same monotone gradient in leverage, from 45 to 55 per cent.
