The fifteen hour training rule is the most sanctioned provision in European insurance distribution, every single year
Total sanctions imposed on insurance distributors in the union, as reported by the European insurance authority. A further 3,865 sanctions are reported for 2018 to 2020 combined, which cannot be split by year and is therefore not plotted. Twenty-four member states imposed sanctions in 2024.
Directive (EU) 2016/97 requires at least fifteen hours of professional training a year for insurance distributors. Of every provision in the directive, that one draws the most sanctions in each year the authority has reported, including 4,828 breaches in 2021 alone.
