The two year figures follow the cohort formed in December 2023 and the four year figures the cohort formed in December 2021. Random chance would give 25 per cent for a top quartile fund staying top quartile over one further year and 6.25 per cent over two. No significance tests are reported; the only benchmark used is random chance.
Of the large cap funds in the top quartile at the end of 2021, none was still there in each of the next four years. Over two years 28.90 per cent were, against 25 per cent expected from chance alone.
