Net short positions are calculated across all instruments giving short exposure, not only borrowed shares. The public register shows positions at or above 0.5 per cent by holder, and the aggregate figure for an issuer can be far larger than any single disclosed position because it sums the disclosed holders.

European rules require a private notification at 0.1 per cent of issued shares and public disclosure at 0.5 per cent. The Dutch register carried 728 live notifications when read, and the largest single disclosed position was 2.41 per cent.
