Europe harmonised deposit protection and investor compensation and never harmonised insurance guarantee schemes, and three official counts of the national schemes disagree
| Source et date | Count |
|---|---|
| Supervisory consultation paper, 30 July 2018 | 20 member states with one or more schemes, 26 schemes in total, and 11 states in the economic area with none |
| Supervisory opinion, 9 July 2019 | the same 11 states with none; 8 of 22 schemes in one caption; a figure splitting 9 host, 7 home and 8 combined, which sums to 24 by our arithmetic |
| Commission research centre, 22 September 2021 | "At present, 17 EU Member States have IGS in place", which implies 10 with none, derived |
| Schemes covering both life and non life | 7 in one paragraph, against a figure splitting 11, 7, 4 and 3 in the same document |
Three official counts and two internal inconsistencies, all printed as found and none reconciled. The counts are three and five years apart and use different geographic perimeters, which explains some but not all of the spread.
One supervisory paper counts twenty member states with twenty six schemes and eleven states with none. A Commission research centre counts seventeen states with schemes. Only four national schemes have any target fund level at all.
