Bank branch counts from each national authority: the German central bank at 31 December 2024, the Italian central bank at 31 December 2025, and the Swedish Bankers' Association for 2025, whose figure covers responding member banks only. The three periods are different lengths and the three definitions are each national, so these are three separate measurements.

Branch networks are shrinking faster than bank employment. Germany went from 45,467 branches to 17,870 in twenty years, Italy from 29,027 to 19,140 since 2016, and Sweden from 1,987 in 2008 to 932 in 2025.
