The underlying 8 hour rates were -0.2553% at 18:00 UTC on 12 Mar 2020, +0.1314% on 13 Apr 2021, -0.0191% on 18 Jun 2022, -0.2097% at 00:00 UTC on 10 Nov 2022 and +0.0101% on 4 Aug 2026. Annualising a single print assumes it persists for a year. None of these did.

A perpetual future never expires, so an eight hourly funding payment holds it near spot. That payment has run from minus 279 per cent a year in March 2020 to six per cent lately. Funding is the entire return on a hedged position.
