Mt Gox creditors waited 3,721 days for the first coins
Computed from the dates in the table below. Mt Gox is measured from the Tokyo District Court's bankruptcy order of 24 Apr 2014 to the start of bitcoin and bitcoin cash repayments in July 2024. It is not over: the trustee extended the repayment deadline to 31 Oct 2026 in a notice dated 27 Oct 2025, because a considerable number of creditors still had not been paid. Measured to that deadline the wait becomes 12.5 years. The first distribution is not the last one in any of these cases.
Coins held at an exchange are an unsecured claim on the company, not property held for you. Mt Gox creditors waited 3,721 days for a first distribution and FTX creditors 830. Claims are fixed in dollars at the petition date, not in coins.
