Before the European ban, 87% of Cypriot binary option accounts were losing and the average loss was 480 euro
| Toezichthouder | Share of accounts in loss | Average loss | Steekproef |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cyprus, CySEC | 87% | About EUR 480 | 10 providers, January to August 2017 |
| Poland, KNF | 86.3% in 2016, 86.4% in 2017 | Not reported | One Polish firm |
| United Kingdom, FCA | 81% to 85% | GBP 400 to 1,200 | Client accounts, 2016 |
| Italy, CONSOB | Up to 74% | About EUR 590 | Survey of five branches, March 2017 |
All four are reported in recital 36 of the prohibition decision, which was read in the official Italian text because the English version would not render. None carries a significance statistic, and the four cover different populations, periods and definitions of loss.
Four national regulators measured binary option outcomes before the 2018 prohibition. Loss rates ran from 74 to 87 per cent of accounts, and average losses from about 480 to 590 euro, against a product the same decision shows was priced above its expected value.
