European gas storage has met every annual filling target since 2022, and emptied to a different level each spring
End of winter filling level of union gas storage, from the Commission's quarterly gas market reports. The 2025 reading corresponds to 387.55 terawatt hours. Net withdrawal over the winter of 2024 to 2025 was 436.56 terawatt hours. For end March 2024 one Commission document gives 58.48 per cent and another gives 60 per cent or 670 terawatt hours; both are shown.
The union has required gas storage to reach 90 per cent before winter since 2023. The target has been met every year, early. What varies is the other end: end of March stocks have ranged from 26.37 per cent in 2022 to 58.48 per cent in 2024.
