The old rules are FFFS 2010:2, FFFS 2016:33, FFFS 2016:16 and FFFS 2017:23. The new rule is lag 2026:226, whose text reads that the loan to value ratio may not exceed 90 per cent when a residential mortgage loan is granted for the acquisition of a property.

The 85 per cent loan to value limit that stood from October 2010 was repealed on 31 March 2026. From 1 April 2026 a statute sets 90 per cent for purchases, 80 per cent for additional borrowing and equity withdrawal, and the income multiple amortisation rule is gone.
